Creedence Clearwater Revival

by Jeff Suwak

Led by John Fogerty, Creedence Clearwater Revival had a brief but memorable career that included a performance at Woodstock and a string of hits - "Proud Mary," "Bad Moon Rising" and "Who'll Stop the Rain" among them.

One famous fact that sounds like fiction: Fogerty was sued for plagiarizing himself. You see, things turned ugly fast between CCR and their record label, and years later when Fogerty emerged from musical exile with the song "The Old Man Down The Road," his former manager, who owned the publishing rights to the Creedence catalog, sued him, claiming it ripped off "Run Through The Jungle" - a song Fogerty wrote!

These other statements may or may not be true. Can you discern Fact from Fiction in the CCR edition?

  • Laramie from New YorkI love this band. My best songs are Have You ever Seen the Rain and Bad Moon Rising.
  • Saigon Ron from About 10 Miles As The Crow Flies From CcrI grew up about 10 miles away from where CCR is from. I missed about five questions. They were just things that I had never heard. The thing I didn’t get is they didn’t ask anyone about Green river… it was a song about John and his family or his dad taking them to Putah Creek, which is below Lake Berryessa. I’ve been there many times my friends dad had just bought a brand new jaguar XKE and he let his son take it for a spin with his girlfriend up in Lake Berryessa. Mike and his girlfriend came back, but the car was not with them. His dad was almost in tears kind of got off subject, but it all ties in.. all in all I’ve always loved CCR…
