Houston producer DJ Screw first popularized the beverage, which became popular in the hip hop community in the southern US in the 1990s.
• The mainly black-and-white Prohibition-era inspired video features all three rappers. The wooden crates of purple drank are the only objects seen in color throughout the clip. The visual was directed by Howard Ross, who shot several previous 2 Chainz videos including "Ounces Back" and "Bounce" with Lil Wayne.   "I just really wanted to put something in that time and place," Ross explained to Genius. "I actually had a prohibition idea for another song but… I was like 'Oh it makes perfect sense for 'Good Drank.'" There's no direct connection between the song and the prohibition era, but Howard said 2 Chainz liked the idea of "[taking] prohibition, modernizing it by getting rid of the alcohol and replacing it with purple drank."
