Songfacts®:

  • Shayaa Joseph is a hip-hop artist from Atlanta, Georgia who records under the name of 21 Savage. This was released as the lead single from his collaborative EP with producer Metro Boomin, Savage Mode.
  • The song finds Savage blasting a lover warning her that her behaviour is in danger of turning her into an ex. He explained to Genius:

"You talk too f---ing much. You don't know when to shut up. You want fame. Acting like a gold digger. You just dingy. I hate dingy ass hoes. You don't know how to be loyal. You ain't doing s--t with yourself.

I was just talking s--t, man. It wasn't really no specific bitch. It was all these hoes, really. Other people's relationships and s--t. Like, other hoes who I see you going with famous niggas. It was just a whole bunch of hoes."
  • Savage's fellow Atlanta rapper Future joins him on the song. He explained:

"We was just in the studio for a minute before he even did the verse. I was just going to the studio, pulling up on him. I asked him to do it. He was like 'Hell yeah. I got you.' Then he sent it.

The way he did it was like, he did the whole song. Like, how I did the intro? He did an intro doing the same s--t I was doing really, but in his own words. He did an intro. A verse. A hook. And then another verse. Another hook. When Metro played it for me, I was like, 'We should just chop it up, so that we going back & forth.' We just took this s--t that matched and put it where my s--t was and chopped it up."
