Songfacts®:

  • "No Shame" is a commentary on the rampant narcissism that plagues our society.

I only light up when cameras are flashin'
    Never enough and no satisfaction
    Got no shame
I love the way you're screaming my name

The 5 Seconds of Summer guys are constantly under the spotlight and understand the kick of adulation.

Digging my grave to get a reaction
Changing my face and calling it fashion
    Got no shame

The desire to do anything to gain the admiration of others is destructive.
  • Vocalist Luke Hemmings explained the song's meaning to Apple Music. "It's a satirical snapshot of the vanity and insatiable desire for materialistic things that can sometimes plague the world we live in - ourselves included. It's a light-hearted glimpse into the darker parts of society: the good, the bad and the ugly."
  • 5 Seconds of Summer released the song as the third single from Calm on February 5, 2020.
  • The band wrote the song with Happy Perez, Donna Lewis, Watt and Ali Tamposi. Happy Perez and Watt also produced the track. Tamposi and Watt are regular collaborators having co-penned 5 Seconds of Summer's previous two singles "Easier" and "Teeth."
  • Directed by Hannah Lux Davis, the video finds the Aussie pop-rockers doing anything to satisfy their insatiable desire for attention and fame. While Luke Hemmings fakes his funeral, Ashton Irwin is a plastic surgeon injecting a perfect-looking woman, and Michael Clifford take selfies of bloodied faces and bodies after a car crash. Bassist Calum Hood, meanwhile, marries and produces a picture-perfect family that live in a huge suburbia house with a white picket fence.
