Songfacts®:

  • The debut single of British production twosome 99 Souls, this is a mash up of Destiny's Child's 2004 single "Girl" and Monica and Brandy's 1998 R&B crossover hit tune "The Boy Is Mine." The duo said: "The original 'Boy Is Mine' is Brandy and Monica arguing, and the Destiny's Child song is from a woman's perspective; we wanted to tell a story from a man."

The single was released on November 6, 2015 after receiving official praise and sanction from Queen B Beyoncé herself.
  • Brandy recorded new vocals for 99 Souls' mash-up track. Monica was asked to sing a fresh version as well, but turned the offer down, commenting to The Huffington Post: "I feel like sometimes things that are a part of history and that are in history should be left as such so that it can be upheld with the respect that it was given even back then."

"That's the one song and the one time that [Brandy and I] both won a Grammy and experienced certain things. So I have a lot of memories and emotions connected to that record."
