  • A balladeer wrote this song for Matthew Shepard, who was a gay American student at the University of Wyoming who was murdered near Laramie on the night of October 6, 1998. Shepard was kidnapped and left for dead until a bicyclist discovered him. At the time of discovery, Shepard was still alive, but in a coma. He died a few days later from severe head injuries. >>
