Songfacts®:

  • A sappy love song from AC/DC? Your ears do not deceive you.

It's hard to tell if lead singer Bon Scott was being sincere in his lyric, or if he was making fun of the form with intentionally banal lines like:

I can tell by the look in your eye
I can tell by the way you sigh

The title never shows up in the lyric, so perhaps that's a clue. Scott died in 1980, and there is no record of him talking about his intention.

Angus Young would like to purge the song from their discography the same way Jennifer Aniston would like to scrub Leprechaun from her IMDB credits - he's mentioned it as his least favorite AC/DC song.
  • "Love Song" was available only in Australia until 2009, when it appeared on the band's Backtracks compilation. It was part of their debut album, the Australia-only, 1975 version of High Voltage. It was also issued as a single but got little attention.
  • AC/DC didn't have a drummer when they recorded this song, so they used a local studio drummer, a guy named Tony Currenti. The band soon enlisted Phil Rudd on drums and went on to conquer the world of rock, while Currenti ended up running a pizza shop in Sydney. When Jesse Fink tracked him down for the book The Youngs: The Brothers Who Built AC/DC, Currenti said "Love Song" was his favorite AC/DC track.
