Songfacts®:

  • This is a track from Birth and the Burial, Act of Defiance's debut album. The band comprises ex Scar the Martyr vocalist Henry Derek Bonner, former Megadeth members Chris Broderick (guitar) and Shawn Drover (drums), and Shadows Fall bassist Matt Bachand.
  • Chris Broderick wrote half the tracks for the record and Shawn Drover penned the other fifty per cent. Drover was pushed to pen this tune after hearing one of Broderick's contributions. "A song that he wrote called 'Throwback' kind of inspired me a little bit to write a song called 'Thy Lord Belial', because his song is really brutal, and I wanted to have…," the bassist explained to Mars Attacks. "That's a big part of who I am, too - the thrash metal element - so I wanted to make sure that I wrote a song that was equally as aggressive, but different from what he wrote."
