Songfacts®:

  • This song finds Lambert singing about being left alone after a relationship that didn't work out. Several of The Original High tracks, including lead single "Ghost Town" also touch on the subject of being let down by love. "It's a bit bittersweet," Lambert told Ryan Seacrest of the record. "It's a bit melancholy. It's kind of about life always not being exactly what you think it's going to be, but trying to kind of get through it and make the most of it and be the best person you can be - but it's not always easy. Our dreams aren't always what we think they're going to be."
  • The song's music video was directed by the noted fashion photographer Luke Gilford. Lambert said: "I've known Luke Gilford for years - we run in some of the same circles in LA. I have been a fan of all of the work he's been doing lately, and saw him at a party. We started talking about art and music and what I was up to, and what he was up to, and I knew that when the time came to do this music video, that he would be the perfect director. He leads with the heart and his instinct and is very passionate about the work that he does. He has an incredible eye for the unique."

The sad clip follows four lonely Las Vegas performers who are nursing wounds on the inside. They include Lambert who portrays a nightclub singer in a half empty venue. "The main theme of the video is exploring how many entertainers tend to feel the most connected and alive while they are creating," said Lambert. "When the lights turn off and the costumes get put away, many struggle with the feeling of loneliness. I wanted to paint a picture that wasn't necessarily happy or sad, but showed the entire range in between."
