Songfacts®:

  • This electronic-tinged anthem was recorded by Adam Lambert in New York City during a day off from his The Original High Tour. Released on March 17, 2016, the song was premiered live by the singer the same day on American Idol.
  • Adam Lambert "I wanted to surprise my fans with a new, uplifting anthem for the spring. I asked Max Martin for help and he paired me up with Ali Payami who worked with me on 'Ghost Town ' and Swedish star Laleh who is also featured on the track. I feel this song will give people strength to be exactly who they are."
  • Adam Lambert explained that the song is "an anthem about facing exactly who you are and OWNING it. It's intended as a mantra to inspire strength and PRIDE."
  • Lambert released a video for the song, the first that the singer's produced himself. (He co-directed it with photographer Lee Cherry). Lambert said that he "felt a strong feeling of empowerment in creating" the clip independently.

He added: "It was time to shoot this one on my own. This video isn't about selling a song, or product placement, or racking up viral views. This is intended simply as a creative expression."
  • The video was accompanied by a lengthy letter for Flaunt magazine encouraging fans to take pride in themselves.

"Sometimes it's terrifying to face your true, whole self, stripped of any pretense," he wrote. "The good, the bad, the cracks, and the scars. I am no stranger to the feeling of not liking myself. Once I get past my own body image issues, I realize that I sometimes also neglect my own spirit. Living in a world filled with so much hatred sometimes makes cultivating self-love a very difficult task."
