Songfacts®:

  • Aerosmith vocalist Stephen Tyler recorded this duet with country sweetheart Carrie Underwood. Tyler told Noisecreep about his collaboration with the Nashville star: "I sang the song a little country. One of the guys in the band said, 'You need to re-sing it. You're singing it too country. I said, that's how I wrote it! Marty [Frederiksen, co-writer] and I were just talking about it, you know, if it gets on the radio, it sounds like a country song, 'Why not get one of them their people to sing on it?' [affecting a country accent]. I called Carrie up because she's a friend of mine. She was in L.A., but she was leaving that next morning and I said, 'Ooh, get over here quick!' The rest is history. She sang on it, and it's perfect. It's one of those moments that just is."
  • The link up between Aerosmith and a country star was a surprise for many of their fans, but it's not the first time a rock band has collaborated with a Nashville singer. Bon Jovi, for instance, recorded two versions of "Who Says You Can't Go Home," one of which was with Jennifer Nettles from Sugarland.
  • Tyler and Underwood had previously worked together when they performed Aerosmith's hit tune "Walk This Way" and her single "Undo It" together at the 2011 Academy of Country Music Awards. Frequent Aerosmith collaborator Marti Frederiksen, who co-wrote this ballad, also penned the later song.
  • Guitarist Brad Whitford admitted to Noisecreep that there was "a little band resistance" from some colleagues concerning this Carrie Underwood duet. "Then we started talking it out," he added. "Do you have a problem when you listen to a Dylan record and this guy sits in? No, it's cool, so why not? And then you hear those two voices together – such a perfect move, it sounds perfect – Steven just sounds so awesome with her."
