The title is a play on "Lord of the Flies," a 1954 novel by William Golding that was made into a movie in 1963 and again in 1990. Aerosmith lead singer Steven Tyler said, "The critics hated us for this. We weren't supposed to be smart enough to use literary references." Tyler had the sole songwriter credit on the track.
This was the last song Aerosmith recorded for their second album, Get Your Wings. Their bass player Tom Hamilton explained in the band's autobiography Walk This Way: "We locked ourselves into Studio C of the Record Plant (in New York City) for a night and came up with 'Lord of the Thighs,' a portrait of the street life we used to encounter walking up Eighth Avenue at dawn after work. Did you ever see that movie Taxi Driver? The girls in the satin hot pants, the pimps with the big velvet hats. That's what it was."
The Breeders released a cover of this song on their "Cannonball" single in 1993, exploring it from a female perspective.
