Songfacts®:

  • Myopia or nearsightedness is an eye disorder where light focuses in front of, instead of on, the retina. Agnes Obel's Myopia album is a collection of dark baroque folk songs with a theme of mind and memory. The Danish singer-songwriter explained to UK newspaper The Sun: "I believe that we are the sum of our memories, so to understand my own mind and myopia I looked at how my memories present themselves to me. Memories warp over time. It's like the mind's signature on past experiences."
  • Regarding the title track, Obel set out to write a song about the mind observing itself. "Watching it being hijacked and filled with emotions is something information technology does to us all on a daily basis," she said.
