Songfacts®:

  • Back in 1998, the Air duo of Jean-Benoît Dunckel and Nicolas Godin, lifted off their recording career with Moon Safari, an album that is now recognized as an electronic classic. 14 years on the pair continued their lunar travels with another moon inspired record, which takes its inspiration from the 1902 silent film La Voyage Dans la Lune (A Trip to the Moon). The project was commissioned by French organizations Fondation Groupama Gan and Fondation Technicolor for a new fully restored version of the Georges Méliès directed 16-minute movie classic. "It was just so unexpected, the best we could have ever dreamed of," Dunckel told Billboard magazine of being asked to score the film. "Plus," he adds with a laugh, "now we don't have to make any videos for this album."
  • The song features indie pop act Au Revoir Simone. The only other track on the soundtrack with vocals is "Seven Stars," which is a collaboration with Beach House's Victoria Legrand.
  • Other soundtrack work on Air's resume include the scores for The Virgin Suicides and Lost in Translation.
