Songfacts®:

  • Daniel Powter may once have once had a Bad Day, but it seems that Adam, Jack and Ryan Met have had a hundred of them. Here, the AJR trio sing about all the negative things that life tosses at them.
  • Remember when we all got drunk?
I ended up with two broke thumbs

The song was written by the Met brothers while they were studying at Columbia University; it was inspired by some of the things that happened during their time there. The opening lyrics were inspired by an alcohol-filled night out when Jack Met's girlfriend broke both of her thumbs.
  • The guys find a silver lining in the chorus

100 bad days made a 100 good stories
A 100 good stories make me interesting at parties

AJR have turned their episodes of drunken foolishness, no audiences showing up at gigs and heartbreak into killer tales.
  • Jack Met told Billboard the song was written for the party comedown.

"With '100 Bad Days,' we said to each other, 'Let's make this the finale, let's make this the last song that people play of the night,'" he said. "And so that's why we had this huge sweeping, horn filled, anthemic chorus."
