Songfacts®:

  • AJR is a New York City-based band comprising brothers Adam, Jack, and Ryan Metzger (hence their name). The trio write, produce, and mix their own material in the living room of their Chelsea apartment.
  • Ryan wrote this song in his Columbia dorm room during October 2012's Hurricane Sandy. A few months later he tweeted a link to a video of the tune to a number of celebrities. One of them was Australian singer Sia Furler. who told her manager about the track, and he contacted CEO and Founder of S-Curve Records Steve Greenberg, who'd previously worked his magic on two other sibling musical acts Hanson and Jonas Brothers. Greenberg liked what he heard and became AJR's co-manager.
  • The song samples SpongeBob SquarePants repeatedly singing "I'm ready" from the eponymous animated series' premiere episode.
