Songfacts®:

  • This song, which can be translated as "The Swans Of Balaka," was written by the Italian crooner Al Bano; it was recorded by the man and his wife Romina Power (the daughter of the American actor Tyrone Power), in 1987.

Although a fairly nondescript duet, it attracted a certain amount of publicity when Bano brought a legal action against Michael Jackson, claiming the American had ripped it off for his song "Will You Be There?" >>

  • Pam from MaineThe songs are very similar but not exactly the same. When I write songs, it's possible that I was influenced by another nit even realizing it.
  • KathleenI Cigni di Balaka is a beautiful song by Al Bano & Romina Power.
Thank You for sharing it with the rest of us.
P.S. It's really too bad that Michael Jackson ripped off you guys for his song "Will You Be There?"
For the record: You guys should have won the lawsuit. Unfortunately it was overturned because Wacko Jacko got away with it - just like he's gotten away with everything else he's done. Shame on him!!
