  • This is possibly the only song ever to be co-written by an Englishman living in Scotland and a Scotsman living in England. It is also the only original Al Stewart song on which he has used someone else's lyrics. "My Enemies Have Sweet Voices" was written by the Edinburgh-based poet Pete Morgan. On May 29, 1968, he was a guest on John Peel's Nightride program where he met Al, who although born in Glasgow had lived in England with his widowed mother from an early age.
    Al liked Morgan's poem, and set it to music. He performed it live on BBC's My Kind Of Folk program on March 19, 1969, which he also hosted. >>>
