  • It's OK if you shed a tear when listening to this very nostalgic song where Alan Jackson looks back at his life, remembering a time when 30 seemed old. The song is mostly autobiographical and largely a tribute to his wife Denise - they were high school sweethearts and got married in 1979. Alan and Denise raised three daughters together; they were all still young when Jackson released this song in 2003 (he was 45).

Jackson, who wrote the song himself, posted on social media: "Denise and I met as kids, and all that's true. And most of that is just reflections of our life, and some of it looking ahead."
  • Trey Fanjoy, a prolific music video director who was also helmed Jackson's "It's Five O'Clock Somewhere" and "Good Time," directed the video. Midway through the clip, Jackson's wife, Denise, joins him in an intimate dance.
  • "Remember When" was one of two new songs (along with "It's Five O'Clock Somewhere") released on Jackson's Greatest Hits Volume II album. Both songs went to #1 on the Country chart and crossed over to the pop chart as well, with "Remember When" reaching #29 on the Hot 100.
  • The song connected with fans right away and became a must-play at Jackson's concerts. Over the years he heard from many folks who connected the song to their own lives.
  • Jackson delivered an emotional performance of "Remember When" at the Academy of Country Music (ACM) Awards on May 8, 2025, where a new award was introduced: the Alan Jackson Lifetime Achievement Award. As Jackson sang, photos from his past were shows on a screen, making it a sort of living tribute. There were lots of tears in the audience.

At the time, Jackson was nearing the end of his Last Call: One More for the Road" farewell tour. He was diagnosed with a neurological condition called Charcot-Marie-Tooth in 2011, which made it increasingly difficult for him to perform.
