Songfacts®:

  • This heartbreaking duet with Lee Ann Womack was originally a 1977 country hit for Vern Gosdin, who died in April 2009. Vern wrote the song with his wife at the time, Cathy Gosdin, and released it in 1968.
  • Jackson explained in press materials why he decided to cover the tune. He said: "(It) was definitely a tribute to Vern Gosdin after he died. That song's always been one of those that pops up in my head every now and then that I've wanted to cover as a duet with somebody. A lot of people won't know it because it was a long time ago and probably not as big a hit. It gave me the opportunity to finally sing with Lee Ann Womack. It was terrible for me, because I thought I sounded pretty good till she came in! And then she just blew me away."

  • Mishell from GeorgiaCathy is NOT his sister. Cathy was Vern Gosdin's 1st wife, and she is the mother of his two sons. When they were married and raising their kids, they lived in Georgia (next door to me). Vern Gosdin is my paternal uncle.
