Songfacts®:

  • This song is based on the classic story, The Princess Bride, which was a 1973 novel by William Goldman adapted into a popular 1987 film. The title, "As You Wish," is a line frequently said by one of the main characters, Wesley, to profess his love to his dear Buttercup. The lyrics are filled with references to the story, including "Will you forgive what I've done to give you four white horses?," which invokes the final scene where the characters ride out on four white horses.

The Where Myth Fades To Legend was Alesana's second, and its songs were all based on fables or fairy tales.
  • The female vocals on this song are by Melissa Milke, who is the sister of Alesana lead singer Shawn Milke.
  • Alesana's next album, The Emptiness, was released in 2010 and moved them into a different lyrical realm for band co-founders Dennis Lee and Shawn Milke. "We've spent our career thus far basing our songs and lyrics on the works of some of our favorite authors and literature of the past (i.e. stories in Greek mythology, fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm) and some chosen contemporary screenwriting (i.e. Heroes, The Princess Bride)," Milke told Alternative Press. "However, even back when we first started writing together, he and I always talked about writing our own story that we could bring to life through one of our records. The Emptiness is that dream come true."
