Songfacts®:

  • "All We Know" finds Alessia Cara trying to understand the world that we live in.

'Round and 'round and 'round it goes
    Heroes fall like dominoes
We try to help it, but we won't
All we know is that we don't

Cara explained the background to the track in a video interview:

"I was just thinking about that, like there was a period of time before I wrote that song, not only was I watching a lot of philosophical Jim Carrey interviews, which can send you into a deep hole of thought that I wasn't ready for, but also there are so many things going on - I remember so many people that we saw as heroes were dying just so instantly.

And it got me thinking, like what is the point of all this, you know, if you can be seen as a hero on earth and then you're just taken, like where do you go? and what do we try as humans to create a legacy for if we're just gone, you know? We don't have the answers, and I think that all we know in this world is that we don't, and that's all we can really be sure of - is that we have no idea, and you just gotta be OK with it because if not, you're never going to get any answers."
