Songfacts®:

  • This is the second single off Alexandra Burke's sophomore studio album, titled Heartbreak On Hold. The song was dropped on May 27, 2012, preceding the album's release by a week.
  • Burke reportedly nearly got arrested while shooting scenes for the song's music video on the London Underground as she didn't get permission to film there. The former X Factor champ revealed: "Let's just say that it was a bit hairy at times and there may have been a couple of occasions where we may not have had permission to film where we did... but at least you know when you watch the video that all that adrenaline you see is real!"

The director Ben Peters said: "The concept for the 'Let it Go' video is Alexandra going through this London journey. It's her starting from down and finishing on a real high."
  • The song was co-written and produced by Danish songwriter Cutfather, who is one half of the production team Soulshock & Cutfather. The other songwriters were Jason Gill who also teamed up with Cutfather to pen JLS's single "Proud" and singer-songwriter Belle Humble who has had cuts as well with such artists as Paloma Faith ("Upside Down") and Freestylers ("Cracks").
  • Here's what Burke had to say about the song's meaning: "'Let it Go' is simply about letting go of life's stresses, and what I wanted to achieve not just with this song but the album... is to let it go, have fun, live life and smile and be happy."
