Songfacts®:

  • The words for the There Is No Year album are all lifted from Algiers singer Franklin James Fisher's epic 3500-word poem entitled Misophonia. Fisher titled the work after the hypersensitive reaction to specific sounds, a condition the vocalist suffers from. He explained to Mojo magazine that he wrote Misophonia as a way to document "a period of profound anxiety and lack."
  • To understand the record in one song, Fisher recommended listening to the title track. "It's about when life stops making sense," he explained. "When you relied on your parents, that they passed away, and that home is gone. When you go to vote, that the system is bankrupt. But also, the idea that faith is central to redemption."
