Songfacts®:

  • In a spoken epilogue at the end of this track, Cooper makes reference to Stephen, a character who featured on his 1975 album Welcome To My Nightmare.
  • Cooper co-produced Along Came A Spider along with Danny Saber and Greg Hampton. Saber, who is best known for his role as member and producer of Black Grape, has worked with a number of other artists, including the Rolling Stones, Ozzy Osbourne, and David Bowie.
  • The album is about a fictional serial killer named Spider, who wraps his victims in a silk web. But, upon meeting his last victim, he falls in love with her and cannot kill to complete his plan. Alice explained to Billboard magazine: "Every song is sort of a letter to the police. They think they're investigating it from the outside, but he's actually woven them into the whole thing."
  • Alice Cooper told The Sun November 1, 2007 how the Spider character emerged as he wrote the album: "Sometimes, as a lyricist, you don't realise everything you're writing over a period is in a certain vein. After I got done writing six songs, I realised Spider was actually a character - and he was a serial killer. He started emerging from the songs and getting more defined."

  • Morgan from Haskell, NjAlong Came A Spider isn't my favorite Alice Cooper album, to be sure. But I absolutely LOVE this song. That eerie intro, Alice's low snarly voice... this song has some serious presence! And that creepy epilogue is so intense that it just stuck in my brain.
