Songfacts®:

  • This feel-good, dance party bop was one of the first songs Alphabeat made after reconvening in 2019 following a six-year hiatus. Co-vocalist Stine Bramsen told OfficialCharts.com it was "the most Alphabeat" of all the new tracks they'd recorded after getting back together.

She added: "Lyrically, it's about the difficult things in life. It's a positive song but there's darkness to it. It's about how our lives aren't just about the nice things and go out partying, it's about waking up and feeling heavy and not knowing if you can find the energy to smile."
  • Co- vocalist Anders SG told Billboard the song reminded the band "of some of the more melancholy Motown hits" such as The Four Tops "Standing In The Shadows Of Love." Because of this the group decided they "wanted to have a kind of upbeat soul groove together with the pop hooks."

He added: "'Shadows' has a kind of signature drumbeat, which we like to think has become a bit of an Alphabeat trademark."
