Songfacts®:

  • Alyssa Reid is a Canadian singer and songwriter who was born in Edmonton, Alberta and resides in Toronto. Interested in music from her early childhood, Alyssa wrote her first song at the age of 7 and began taking vocal lessons two years later. Her debut television appearance was on the television show Party Mamas and at the age of 15, she was the runner up on the first season of The Next Star, a Canadian reality television show on YTV. Alyssa was also posting songs on her own YouTube channel and she was signed by her record label Wax Records in 2009 after "One More Lonely Boy," a reworked version of Justin Bieber's "One Less Lonely Girl" from a female perspective, attracted over 200,000 hits. Her debut album, The Game, was released on June 21, 2011.
  • This is Alyssa's second single. Released on December 7, 2010, "Alone Again" peaked at #3 in her native country and was the top selling, highest charting, and most spun single by a Canadian artist at Canadian radio in 2011.
  • The song features the Toronto Hip-Hop artist P. Reign, who is of Guyanese origin. During the summer of 2010, P.Reign performed across Canada with fellow Canadian rapper and friend, Drake, for the Away From Home Tour.
  • Alyssa penned the song after breaking up with her boyfriend. Most of the tracks on The Game are about him.
  • This samples the lyrics and music of Heart's 1987 song "Alone." Having crafted some verses for a song but struggling to come up with words for a chorus, Alyssa decided to borrow from the Heart hit tune. "I wanted to send it to my label to see what they thought of the song," she recalled to Canadian Interviews, "but I didn't write a chorus yet. The chord progression from Heart's song 'Alone' was the exact same progression, and I love Heart, so I knew the song. So I sang that overtop, just as a filler-chorus almost, just so they could see the song as a whole, and I absolutely fell in love with it. I was like, 'we have to get the rights to this song!'"
  • A re-worked version of the song was released in the UK on January 29, 2012 with P.Reign's rap being replaced by a new performance from Chicago based crew Jump Smokers.
