Songfacts®:

  • This 90-second rocker kicks off Andrew W.K.'s 2001 debut album, I Get Wet, establishing the theme not just for the album but of his personage. Andrew W.K. built his brand on partying and released "Party Hard" as the lead single from the album. More "party" songs followed, even decades later.

Andrew has spent a lot of time talking about the deeper meaning to his party songs. Here's how he explained it to Conan O'Brien in 2007: "Every song to me is really a party song in terms of celebration, in terms of enjoying yourself and having fun, and that's what I've looked for in making music. I think it's up to each individual to find their own way. And that's been my main focus, to say, 'What do you want to do to have fun?"
  • "It's Time To Party" was used in a commercial for Expedia where parents are planning a vacation without their teenage son but change their minds when they imagine him throwing a house party while they're gone. During the house party sequence, this song is playing. The song was also used in a Coors commercial.
  • The music video, directed by Shawn Caple, finds Andrew W.K. spreading his party gospel and throwing his own bash. Interestingly, nobody is drinking alcohol in the video, but at one point he makes a smoothie. Andrew was far from straight edge but didn't want his party message tied with drugs or alcohol. Also, keeping it clean gave the video a better chance of getting on MTV.
  • The cover of the album shows Andrew with blood streaming down his nose. Some of the blood is his, which he got by hitting himself with a brick. The rest of the blood is pig's blood that he got from a local butcher. He really is a lot smarter than he sounds.
