Songfacts®:

  • Andy Gibb was the brother of Barry, Maurice and Robin Gibb of the Bee Gees; his hit "I Just Want To Be Your Everything" was written by Barry. It's a fairly dramatic love song, with Andy declaring his unending passion and stating that without her, he would die.
  • This was the first of three #1 singles for Gibb, which made him the first male solo artist with three consecutive #1 singles in the US. The next single was "(Love Is) Thicker Than Water," which was released when the Bee Gees were scoring huge hits from the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack. That song replaced "Stayin' Alive" at #1 and was bumped by "Night Fever." Gibb's next single was "Shadow Dancing," which he wrote with his brothers and also went to #1. >>>

  • Robin S. from Michigan I liked the Bee Gees, but Andy had my heart. Saw him in concert, in '77 I think. Saw his brothers at the sold-out concert at the Silverdome, July '78. My friend Lisa and I were 12. Didn't have the best seats, so we decided to try to get to the front of the stage, something that would never fly today. Well, it worked. Not only did it work, but the Bee Gees surprised everyone and Andy ran out on stage, sang a few songs, and handed me a rose! I still have it. I truly thought I'd marry him after that amazing night.
  • Barry from Sauquoit, NyOn May 14th 1977, Andy Gibb performed "I Just Want To Be Your Everything" on the Dick Clark ABC-TV network Saturday-afternoon program 'American Bandstand'...
At the time the song was at position #49 on Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eleven weeks later it would peak at #1 {for 3 weeks}, and then it dropped down to #2 and spent 3 weeks at that position before reclaiming the #1 position for one more week, it remained on the Top 100 for over a half a year {31 weeks}...
His next two Top 100 records also peaked at #1; "(Love Is) Thicker Than Water" {for 2 weeks} and "Shadow Dancing" {for 7 weeks}...
On the same 'Bandstand' show he also performed "Flowing Rivers", it was track two of side two on his debut album of the same name, the album would peak at #19 on Billboard's Top 200 Albums chart...
Between 1977 and 1981 he had ten Top 100 records, with six making the Top 10...
Two of his ten Top 100 records were duets; "I Can't Help It" with Olivia Newton-John {#12 in 1980} and "All I Have To Do Is Dream" with Victoria Principal {#51 in 1981}...
Sadly, Andrew Roy Gibb passed away at the young age of 30 on March 10th, 1988...
    May he R.I.P.

  • Abigail from Lexington, Ky@esskayess Andy was plenty talented, he just was corrupted by Victoria Principal and got into some trouble with drugs. If he had stayed with Kim Reeder who he married in 1976 at 18 he would probably be okay now. BTW the song was actually written by Barry and Andy together on Andy's honeymoon for his then wife Kim. They divorced 2 years later and had one daughter together Peta Jaye, who he is rumored to have only met once when she was about 3 (1981) he died March 10th 1988 of myocarditis at age 30
  • Esskayess from Dallas, TxBarry, Maurice and Robin were certainly devoted brothers -- They basically "made" their little brother's career, but he wasn't talented enough to maintain it.
  • Camille from Toronto, OhWhat a great song. Andy Gibb sings it so pure and clear and flowing. So easy to listen to and sing along with.
  • Barry from Sauquoit, NyOn July 30th, 1977 "I Just Want to Be Your Everything" became No. 1 & stayed there for 3 weeks; then "Best of My Love" by The Emotions took over the top spot for the next 4 weeks but Andy hung around and reclaimed #1 for another week!!!
  • Jennifer Harris from Grand Blanc, Mione of my favorite andy gibb songs.
