Songfacts®:

  • Andy Grammer started his career busking on the promenade in Santa Monica, California, where he sold demo CDs to pay his rent. He paid his dues as a street performer before making the big time with the Top 10 single "Honey, I'm Good." This track from Grammer's reissued deluxe version of Magazines or Novels finds him recalling his years trying to make it in the music industry.

I've been grinding so long, been trying this s--t for years
And I got nothing to show, just climbing this rope right here
    .

Then on the pre chorus, he belts out,

I think I finally found my hallelujah.
I've been waiting for this moment all my life
Now all my dreams are coming true, yeah
    .
  • Andy Grammer performed for three-and-a-half years as a busker. During this period of the time he perfected his writing skills as an artist. Andy told us: "I don't know if you've ever done that on the street, but if you're walking by someone and you go, 'Whoa, this guy blew me away and I had no idea I was going to see music today, I actually want to give $10 to buy his CD,' for that moment to occur, you've got to be damn good."

"And it took me three years to really figure that out, out there. By the time my manager came and found me and things started to move, I'd been trained pretty intensely on the level of excellence that you need to actually serve someone's ears."
  • This soundtracked a 2019 commercial for Norwegian Cruise Line that aired during the Super Bowl.
