Songfacts®:

  • Andy Grammer recounts sharing life events with his wife Aijia, both good and bad.

We ride the highs and lows
We ride the highs and lows
You'll never be alone even when your world explodes
'Cause after all the smoke clears, I will be right here

Grammer explained in a Genius attribution: "My wife and I had gone through some tough things in the past year. Her grandfather passed away. I had an episode where I fainted in the shower, and we were able to be there for each other more so than we've ever been through some dark times."
  • Grammer details an alarming medical episode in the second verse:

And when I hit the wall back in December
I took my hardest fall, but we fell together
And we spent the weekend pacing the hotel room at
The Westin in Dublin, never felt so close to you

"It's very autobiographical, about a health scare that happened when we were on vacation in Ireland," he explained to Billboard. "I fainted in the shower and chipped my tooth and looked like I was having a seizure because I hadn't slept in like, two years."
  • Andy Grammer wrote this song with Nolan Sipe with whom he penned "Honey, I'm Good" and Australian/British songwriter Jarrad Rogers whose resume includes UK Top 20 hits for Boyzone ("Love You Anyway"), Tinchy Stryder and Pixie Lott ("Bright Lights"), Rebecca Ferguson ("I Hope") and Ella Eyre ("If I Go"). Grammer recalled: "When we got together, we knocked out the majority of the song in one session."
  • This was song 101 of 115 written in preparation for Andy Grammer's The Good Parts album.
