Songfacts®:

  • Rising Free was a short lived punk fanzine published at Hitchin. Its third issue contained an interview with Angelic Upstarts wherein the band was asked if this song was aimed at the British Army in Ireland or the Army as a whole. Lead vocalist Mensi replied, "The Army as a whole, but both really, it's about soldiers dying."

When asked if the Army should pull out, he said "I haven't got the answer, I'm not intelligent [enough] to say whether they should pull out, but someone should do something... cos kids are still getting killed."
  • "Last Night Another Soldier" was co-written by Mensi and lead guitarist Mond. Produced by Pete Wilson, it was released on the Zonophone label backed by "The Man Who Came In From The Beano." Its title appears to have inspired or been purlioned for at least two books. >>>
