Songfacts®:

  • In this song, Murray has gone through a breakup, but she can't let it go. In fact, her love for him keeps getting stronger, and she's not sure how to handle it. Even though she's living without him, deep inside, it still goes on and on.
  • Jerry Buckner, half of the Buckner & Garcia duo who had a hit with "Pac-Man Fever" in 1982, wrote this song. He says it was "probably a composite of two or three relationships" that inspired the lyric.
  • In our interview with Jerry Buckner, he said that the demo of this song he recorded with a singer named Cheryl Wilson might be better than Murray's version. Wilson's version was used in a 1996 made-for-TV movie called O'Henry's Christmas starring Anthony Quinn.
