Songfacts®:

  • Christian singer Anne Wilson praises God for protecting her from the ultimate enemy on "Devil," a song she told Songfacts is "an important reminder the Lord brought life to us and death to the Devil, and we can stand firm knowing that the enemy has no hold over us."
  • Wilson told the story behind the song on her YouTube channel. She said: "There are times in my life where Satan taunts me and makes me feel less than. Sometimes he whispers lies in my ear that are hard not to believe. It can be hard to not let those lies enter my heart.

One of the lies I fought was thinking that God didn't love me because of my past sin and mistakes. But, as a Christian, it's up to us to choose not to believe those lies. It's up to us to choose to believe that God brought life to us and death to the Devil.

The first line of the song is, 'Devil thought he had won the final round, Devil thought he could keep you six feet down.' Satan does truly think he can have a hold on us, but the truth is that he has been defeated and we can live in freedom."
  • This was released on the multi-track lead single "My Jesus," which went to #1 on the Christian Songs chart.
  • Wilson wrote this with her "My Jesus" co-writer Jeff Pardo, who also co-wrote the hit "When Mercy Found Me" for the Rhett Walker Band.
  • This was included on Wilson's debut EP, My Jesus (Live In Nashville), which was recorded at the White Dove Barn in Nashville, Tennessee.
