Songfacts®:

  • "Hey Girl" is an empowering song where Anne Wilson entreats young girls to see themselves as God does.
  • Hey, girl
You don't need to measure up
    You are the treasure of
    The God who loves you

When Wilson wrote the lyrics to "Hey Girl," she looked back at a tough time growing up when she fell into the habit of comparing herself to other girls. "I used to always feel like I never measured up and I was never good enough," Wilson recalled to New Release Today. "I remember a sweet friend telling me how precious I was in the eyes of God, and I didn't have to strive for perfection. I didn't have to work hard to get God's love and attention. I was just enough the way God made me."
  • Wilson wrote "Hey Girl" with her "My Jesus" co-writers Jeff Pardo and Matthew West. They penned it after Wilson shared her struggles with putting her identity in what the world says about her, instead of who the Lord has called her to be. She wanted to write a song that would remind women dealing with the same struggles of their worth in Jesus.
  • Jeff Pardo also produced the track. His other credits include Katy Nichole's "In Jesus Name (God of Possible)." In March 2022 "In Jesus Name" became the first debut single to reach #1 on the Hot Christian Songs chart since another of his songs, "My Jesus," landed on the summit in August 2021.
