• Although it may sound like an indictable offense, Muffin the Mule was a popular children's puppet from 1950's British television. The character, which was actually created as long ago as 1933, featured in its own TV show from 1946 until 1955 when presenter Annette Mills died. From 1956-7 the shows were re-run on ITV. Nearly fifty years later, a new, animated Muffin was resurrected. In spite of its innocuous nature, it is tempting to speculate that the name was chosen deliberately as a double entendre, perhaps as a private joke of its creator, Fred Tickner, a puppeteer of some repute.
• The sheet music for the original show is credited thus: "WE WANT MUFFIN! (MUFFIN THE MULE)" The Signature Song written for Ann Hogarth's Television Star "Muffin the Mule" by ANNETTE MILLS. It was published by Chappell of London, copyright 1950, and retailed for one shilling. >>>
