Songfacts®:

  • This sparkly, sorrowful tune is the lead single from Hopelessness, the first album to be released by Antony Hegarty of Antony and the Johnsons under her new name Anohni. "It's a love song from the perspective of a girl in Afghanistan, say a 9-year-old girl whose family's been killed by a drone bomb," Anohni explained to BBC Radio 1's Annie Mac. "She is kind of looking up at the sky and she's gotten herself to a place where she just wants to be killed by a drone bomb too."
  • The video was directed by Nabil Elderkin, who has also handled clips by Kanye West, Frank Ocean, The Weeknd and John Legend. It features British supermodel Naomi Campbell tearfully lip syncing to the song in a smoky room.

Asked by Mojo how she got Naomi Campbell for the clip, Anohni replied: "That was down to (fashion designer) Riccardo Tisci. He's a friend of mine and it was his dream to have Naomi dancing in a club. He's really good friends with her and she came over to my house and listened to the track and she was up for it. She's so ironic that her role in the video is to bring much more universality to the message than I could. She functions as a feminine oracle. I couldn't have asked for more."
