Songfacts®:

  • Anuel AA and his fiancée Karol G are joined by Puerto Rican singers Ozuna and Daddy Yankee on this posse cut alongside Colombian J Balvin. All five get their chance to shine, with Anuel AA, Daddy Yankee and Ozuna sharing the first half between them. Karol G takes the fourth verse before J Balvin brings the tune home.
  • The track samples Shaggy's 2000 reggae fusion hit "It Wasn't Me." Both songs talk about infidelity and getting caught red-handed, but "China" producer Tainy incorporates a Latin urban/reggaeton backbeat.
  • Anuel told Billboard that he'd been looking to revive a classic for some time and when he heard Shaggy's song, it hit him. "The original rhythm had strong Chinese elements, hence the name of the song," he said.

Anuel sent his mix to Daddy Yankee, and the King of Reggaetón recorded his part three days later. "Karol then heard it and fell in love with the vibe," he added. "Ozuna and Balvin then came on board."
  • The song was released on July 19, 2019, a few months after Daddy Yankee's "Con Calma," which successfully resuscitated another reggae fusion hit, Snow's "Informer."
