Ev'rybody Loves A Soldier

Album: Songs of England (1953)

Songfacts®:

  • The year 1953 saw the Coronation of Elizabeth Windsor as Queen of England, a position she would still hold more than half a century later. Unsurprisingly, the event led to a certain amount of flag waving, and according to the January 21, 1961 issue of Melody Maker, it also launched the songwriting career of Archie Alexander when he won a two hundred and fifty pound prize in a marching song competition run by the News Of The World.

As an established bandleader, Alexander had already composed a fair bit of music, so his success was not too surprising. The cover title of his march is "Ev'rybody Loves A Soldier," although the title within is "Everybody Loves A Soldier." Written in 2/4 time, it was published by Francis, Day & Hunter of London at 2 shillings, copyright 1953. >>>
