Songfacts®:

  • A familiar theme for the band is the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz. In 2007 at the Brit Awards the band dressed in Wizard of Oz and Village People costumes for their acceptance videos. Also this track's title is similar to the yellow-brick road, which Dorothy followed to reach the Emerald City, and it ends with the line "Dorothy was right though."
  • This was written by singer Alex Turner and Jon McClure. The latter is best known for fronting Reverend and the Makers, who had a UK #8 hit in 2007 with "Heavyweight Champion Of The World." Both Turner and McClure come from Sheffield and they once shared a flat.
