Songfacts®:

  • This soulful cut finds Ariana Grande singing of a lover who has been hurting her too much. Instead of continuing to choke on a love that just won't work, she wants the guy out of her life so she can move on.
  • Grande is joined on the track by Macy Gray, whose signature gravely voice is unmistakable on the refrain. The R&B singer is best known for her song "I Try," which was one of the biggest singles of 1999 and earned her a Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.
  • Grande debuted the song live at the grand opening of the Las Vegas T-Mobile Arena on April 7, 2016. Gray wasn't around for that performance.
  • Gray told Billboard magazine that she was unaware how talented a vocalist Grande is until they worked together on this song. "She's a pure singer," she said. "It's similar to what Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston and Christina Aguilera have - that power thing. But I didn't realize that. She does all these pop records where you can get a song across without showing your chops."
