Songfacts®:

  • Riley Davis is a Brighton-born rapper whose performing name of ArrDee is derived from his initials. His career took off in 2021 with his guest spot on the remix of Russ Millions and Tion Wayne's "Body" and his tribute to his hometown, "6am In Brighton." This song is his first solo single to reach the UK chart.
  • During the song, ArDee references his early life living with his family in the poor part of Brighton; he raised himself up by scheming and some disreputable behavior.

Think I didn't take risks to get to this 'sitch? Don't take the piss
I've been scummy, I admit, I did what I did
  • The title is a reference to the Charles Dickens novel Oliver Twist, Lionel Bart's 1960 musical, and its 1968 film adaptation.

I used to think I'm just dreaming
I just wanted some more, Oliver Twist

In one famous workhouse scene, the half-starved eponymous character begs the master for another portion of gruel: "Please, sir, I want some more." ArrDee uses the line to outline how his goal in life is constantly bettering himself. By manifesting his thoughts and dreams, the rapper is realizing his ambitions.
  • British producer Zel came up with the violin-led beat. It is his first credit on a hit song.
  • British YouTuber, blogger and influencer, Adeola Patrone guests in the video. They first connected after ArrDee namedropped her at the start of his verse on "Body (Remix)."

Adeola wanna roll with a geezer
Is it me or the lifestyle, sweetheart?
  • ArrDee told Apple Music Zel's string-laden production helped him come up with the concept. "As soon as I heard the violins, I came out with the first line of the chorus, and the rest came out easy after that," he said. "All the songs [from Oliver!] are embedded in my head; I feel like they're like a part of my family's history. I've got videos of myself at five or six years old, performing 'Consider Yourself' and 'I'd Do Anything.' I've always been a bit of an attention seeker."
