Songfacts®:

  • "Tailor Swif" showcases A$AP Rocky's signature blend of braggadocio and clever wordplay. Rocky alternates between tales of his come-up, his appreciation for luxury, and double entendre boasts. In one line, he raps, "I'm too G, she agree I'm a GOAT," highlighting him being both gangsta and one of the greatest of all time.
  • The chorus plays on the double meaning of "swift," referring both to speed and to pop superstar Taylor Swift. Rocky also incorporates a fashion reference by mentioning his tailor, creating a pun on Swift's name.
  • Rocky first performed "Tailor Swif" at Rolling Loud Portugal on July 7, 2022. The track subsequently leaked online, prompting the rapper to address the situation on social media before its official release on August 30, 2024.
  • Throughout the song, Rocky playfully warns listeners not to "tell Taylor 'bout this s--t," a tongue-in-cheek nod to Swift's reputation for protecting her creative works and public image, as well as her devoted fanbase.

Still, the song's release sparked controversy among Swift's fans, who accused Rocky of using her name for clout.

This isn't the first time a rapper has referenced Swift in a track. Notably, Kanye West's 2016 song "Famous" includes a controversial line about Swift that ignited a public feud ("I made that b---h famous"). In a less contentious example, Drake mentioned Swift on his 2023 track "Red Button," referencing how the release of her Midnights record influenced his own release schedule.
  • Memphis producer HitKidd produced the song. Seeing as the song has been floating around since 2022, it's likely he created it not long after he came up with the beat for his breakthrough hit, GloRilla's "FNF (Let's Go)."
  • The music video for "Tailor Swif" was filmed in Kyiv, Ukraine, two months before the Russian invasion began in February 2022. Rocky directed the surrealistic clip himself, in line with his hands-on approach to his creative projects.
  • "Tailor Swif" won Video of the Year trophy at the 2025 UK Music Video Awards. Rocky also took home the trophies for the Best Hip Hop / Grime / Rap Video – International, Best Production Design, Best Cinematography, and Best Visual Effects.
