Songfacts®:

  • In this song, Ash lead singer Tim Wheeler, tries to woo Annabel by convincing her that he's the guy to bring her comfort in the storm. Apparently, she's not buying it.

"It was a bit of an unrequited situation and I imagined what the relationship could have been," Wheeler said in a Songfacts interview. "It was something that never happened - something that never went further than the song. When you get a little bit of a crush on someone that can make for fun writing because your imagination can work overtime in those times. It can be good for songs."
  • Wheeler drew inspiration from a girl he was into named Isabel, changing the name to Annabel to make it more singable.
  • Ash songs are loaded with literary references. In this one, our hero offers to be Annabel's "Guinevere," who was the wife of King Arthur.
