Songfacts®:

  • Raised between the coasts of California and Florida, Ashley Cooke developed her love of country music at high school, where Rascal Flatts, Jason Aldean and Florida Georgia Line were the soundtrack. Cooke followed her passion for country music to Belmont University in Nashville, where in 2019 the college chose her the winner of their annual "Country Showcase." A very high honor at Belmont and beyond, past victors include Brad Paisley, Chris Young, Kassi Ashton and Florida Georgia Line's Tyler Hubbard.

Cooke released her debut EP Already Drank That Beer – Side A in August 2021, which included the original solo version of "Never Til Now."
  • Cooke sings of falling in love when she didn't expect to. "A walking definition of unsettled and restless," she never thought she would settle down with a man. One evening a guy walked into a bar and they started talking, then dancing. By closing time, Cooke was head-over-heels with "the kind of love you fall so hard, you never hit the ground."
  • Cooke co-wrote "Never Til Now" with Matt Roy (Chris Janson's "Done," Chris Young's "If That Ain't God"). Songwriter and producer Jimmy Robbins (Maran Morris' "The Bones," Kelsea Ballerini featuring Kenny Chesney's "Half of My Hometown") manned the boards.
  • Following the release of Already Drank That Beer, "Never Til Now" garnered viral success across TikTok and digital streaming platforms. When Brett Young heard it through his pal Jimmy Robbins, he instantly fell in love with the romantic love song. They arranged for him to jump on a duet version where he gives the male perspective of the chance encounter in the bar. The new rendition finds Young just as smitten as Cooke; after going through a torrid time, he too hadn't expected to discover love.
  • Cooke released the duet version on April 1, 2022, just days after signing a co-venture record deal with Big Loud Records / Back Blocks Music.
