Don't Go There

Album: Asleep at the Wheel Remembers the Alamo (2003)

Songfacts®:

  • This humorous ditty from the Texas group Asleep at the Wheel offers some valuable advice: don't pee on the Alamo.

As mentioned in the song, Ozzy Osbourne once did this (he actually peed on a monument across the street), and he was not welcomed back to San Antonio for 10 years.

Written by group members Ray Benson and Dave Sanger, the message in the song is clear:

It's a symbol of our state
    Not a place to urinate
  • Asleep at the Wheel chose an Alamo theme for their 2003 album because they knew there was a big-budget movie coming out the following year (The Alamo, starring Dennis Quaid), and for a goof, they decided to put an album out with that motif first.
