  • The Rubik's Cube is a 3-D mechanical puzzle invented in 1974 by Hungarian sculptor and professor of architecture Erno Rubik. It is widely considered to be the world's best-selling toy. There are 43,252,003,274,489,856,000 different color combinations possible on a Rubik's Cube.

    The World Rubik Cube championship was held in Budapest on June 5, 1982. Nineteen National Champions took part. Minh Thai, the US Champion, won by solving the Cube in 22.95 seconds.

    The world record, in competitive conditions, has grown progressively lower and in 2015 was set at 4.904 seconds by 15-year-old Lucas Etter.
