Songfacts®:

  • After a string of modest hits, "So In To You" was a breakthrough for the Atlanta Rhythm Section, a group which was formed in 1970 consisting mainly of former members of Classics IV and The Candymen. The group was highly popular in the Southern states, less so nationwide. Still, they are considered pioneers of southern rock and retained a loyal following, performing at festivals into the 2010s. >>>

  • Written by the group's producer/vocalist Buddy Buie, keyboard player Dean Daughtry and drummer Robert Nix, this song is about a guy how is captivated by a woman the moment he lays eyes on her.
  • There is some double entendre in the lyric, as when our hero spots his girl in the club, he's "so into" her, and thinks about how he can "get into" her. This bit could certainly have a rather prurient meaning:

It's gonna be good, don't you know
From your head to your toe
Me into you, you into me, me into you

  • David CHey Big Honkette Fan, I heard the same .... that the feelin' wasn't exactly mutual. You picked a good time to visit Pikeville it was in its peak in the mid-to-late 70's and early 80's
  • Big Honkette Fan from New Albany, InHey David C, You are exactly right. Being "In The Business" for 50 years+ MANY people have been saying that since the tune was cut. I've also heard, not sure if true that Nix pursued but she would not reciprocate! By the way, Loved Pikeville in the 70's. The chicks loved to reciprocate there then! Rock ON!
  • David C from Pikeville, KyThis song was written about foxy Lynyrd Skynyrd backup singer Leslie Hawkins. When she "walked into the room", she had an immediate effect on Robert Nix.
  • Oliver Clothesoff from NyA high school acquaintance had a different intro for this:

"When you walked into the room,
There was voodoo in your glance.
I was captured by your style,
But I couldn't get in your pants."
  • Zen Dean from GeorgiaWhy is there an album on Spotify called So In To You, possibly a compilation, that has 1972 as a release date. If so this would predate the '76 version. Does Spotify have it wrong?
  • AnonymousI Love, just love this smooth seductive song!
  • Barry from Sauquoit, NyAtlanta Rhythm Section producer Buddy Buie died Saturday, July 18th, 2015 after suffering a heart attack. He was inducted into both the Georgia and Alabama Music Halls of Fame...
