Songfacts®:

  • Former Danity Kane member Aubrey O'Day recorded this single, which was self-released during the transmission of her stint on The Celebrity Apprentice 5. The song was penned by David Hodges, Steven Miller and American Idol alum Pia Toscano.
  • O'Day told Ryan Seacrest about the recording of the song. She said: "'Wrecking Ball' is a beautifully executed song. David Hodges pushed me past my comfort zone in R&B/pop music and forced me to deliver a strong pop anthem that makes me depend on my vocal performance more than any track I've recorded. It was an honor to hear him say I murdered my vocals, as he has worked with some of the greatest vocalist in the business right now, from Kelly Clarkson to Carrie Underwood."
  • This should not be confused with the Bruce Springsteen song of the same name, which also was released in the first half of 2012. Other tunes that reference the heavy steel demolition device in their title include Harvey Danger's 1997 track, Lifehouse's 2010 number, and the 2013 Miley Cyrus hit.
