Songfacts®:

  • August Alsina is a Hip-Hop singer from New Orleans who is signed to Def Jam Recordings. He first recorded this celebration of good smoking, alcohol and women on his May 2013 mixtape The Product 2, then recycled it on his debut EP, Downtown: Life Under the Gun.
  • Whilst Alsina is enjoying the fruits of his hard work, he also admits on this cut to being concerned that his is too young to be living in the fast lane. Trinidad James spits the last verse from a different perspective, as he complains to a woman that she is looking for love in the wrong places.
  • The song's beat was supplied by Arkansas-born, and Atlanta-based producer Sam "Knucklehead" Irving. His other credits include Gucci Mane's "Scotty" and Soulja Boy's "The First."
  • A remix recorded with Trey Songz and Chris Brown, brought the song to the attention of many new fans. The new version changes the emphasis of the hook from "I love this s--t" to "she loves it" transforming it into a celebration of the R&B lotharios' sexual prowess.
  • This topped Billboard's Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop airplay chart, making Alsina the first R&B singer to reach #1 on the tally with a debut single since Jeremih's 2009 "Birthday Sex."
  • The song won the Coca-Cola Viewers' Choice Award at the 2014 BET Awards.
